Same Mistake

I'm not really a fan of James Blunt, but I think he did a nice job with this song, titled Same Mistake. I think the lyrics are absolutely beautiful, and I think his unique voice adds an emotional element that really fits the song.
I'm not very fond of the music video, but if you wish to see it, you can watch it on YouTube.
I will post the lyrics, because, as I said, I think they are very very good.
Enjoy.

Same Mistake
James Blunt

Saw the world turning in my sheets
And once again, I cannot sleep
Walk out the door and up the street
Look at the stars beneath my feet
Remember rights that I did wrong
So here I go

Hello, hello

There is no place I cannot go
My mind is muddy but
My heart is heavy, does it show
I lose the track that loses me
So here I go

oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...

And so I sent some men to fight
And one came back at dead of night
Said he'd seen my enemy
Said he looked just like me
So I set out to cut myself
And here I go

oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...

I'm not calling for a second chance
I'm screaming at the top of my voice
Give me reason, but don't give me choice
'Cause I'll just make the same mistake again]

oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...

And maybe someday we will meet
And maybe talk and not just speak
Don't buy the promises 'cause
There are no promises I keep
And my reflection troubles me
So here I go

oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...

I'm not calling for a second chance
I'm screaming at the top of my voice
Give me reason, but don't give me choice
'Cause I'll just make the same mistake again

oo oooooo ooo ooo oo oooo...

So while I'm turning in my sheets

And once again, I cannot sleep

Walk out the door and up the street

Look at the stars

Look at the stars, falling down

And I wonder where, did I go wrong

I Don't Love You

There are a few reasons why I wanted to post the lyrics and music video for MCR's I Don't Love You on this site. One, because I'm completelly in love with the song (MCR in general, really). Two, because I think the video is very well made and interesting to watch. But third, and probably most importantly, I think this video is an extremelly good example of Gerard Way (lead singer...) and his absolutely amazing talent. He is a phenomenal singer, and not only because he has a good voice... part of what makes Gerard amazing is the fact that he puts his heart and soul into every song. He's got a passion for what he does, and that really stands out. And in his music videos, you can see how much Gerard puts into his music... it's very similar to a good actor getting "in character" before a movie shoot. This is very obvious in the video for I Don't Love You.
This is I Don't Love You by My Chemical Romance... a beautiful song, and a prime example of Gerard's unparalleled talent.

My Chemical Romance - I Don't Love You Music Video

I Don't Love You
My Chemical Romance

Well, when you go
Don't ever think I'll make you try to stay
And maybe when you get back
I'll be off to find another way

And after all this time that you still owe
You're still the good-for-nothing I don't know
So take your gloves and get out
Better get out
While you can

When you go
Would you even turn to say
"I don't love you
Like I did
Yesterday"

Sometimes I cry so hard from pleading
So sick and tired of all the needless beating
But baby when they knock you
Down and out
It's where you outta stay

And after all the blood that you still owe
Another dollar's just another blow
So fix your eyes and get up
Better get up
While you can
Whoa, whooa

When you go
Would you even turn to say
"I don't love you
Like I did
Yesterday"

Well come on, come on

When you go
Would you have the guts to say
"I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday"

I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday

I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday

Your Guardian Angel

I've been in an extremelly musical mood today; might be that fact that I've spent all day (literally...) putting songs old & new onto my new iPod nano video that I got for Christmas... :D I'm a very happy girl. Anyway.
My girl Reno had the song Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus on her phone (MP3 compatible), and I wanted to listen to it, but I didn't get a chance, and then forgot about the song entirely... until today, when I was browsing iTunes' collection of Red Jumpsuit songs. I found that song, then purchased both the audio track and the music video...
Oh. My. Word.
I was blown away. I dunno, maybe it was just the mood I was in, but this song completelly got to me. I actually started shaking when I watched the music video for the first time... the combination of amazing lyrics, melodies, and vocals, plus the visual effects of the video (stunning!) had me on complete sensory overload. 'Cause I'm wierd like that. But the lead singer (don't know his name... my appologies) obtains a haunting feel to his voice as he sings this beautiful love song, and it literally took my breath away. The acoustic guitars complete the mood, but at the end of the song, when the song explodes with electric guitars... wow.
Anyway. Here's Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. This has to be one of the best songs I've heard in a very long time.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Your Guardian Angel Music Video

Your Guardian Angel
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face
I can't replace
And now that I'm strong, I have figured out
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul
And I know I'll find deep inside me
I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It's okay
It's okay
It's okay...

Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

'Cause you're my, you're my, my...
My true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
'Cause I'm here... for you
Please don't walk away and
Please tell me you'll stay... here

Whoa-oh
Stay
Whoa-oh

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I'll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven...

Carol of the Bells

It's Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas everybody!!!
And what would a blog about music be without a few Christmas songs??? ;) I know. I hate Christmas music to; it's just way overdone. When they start playing Christmas songs the day after Thanksgiving, you're fed up with it by the time Christmas comes around!
But I feel slightly oblidged. So here's my favorite Christmas song, Carol of the Bells... with a twist.

Iris

I heard this song for the first time today, and I am nowhere near dissapointed. I was hooked was soon as I heard the lyrics and i don't want the world to see me / 'cause i don't think that they'd understand, and as I listened further, I was drawn in by the singer's amazing, passionate voice and the melodies, which were executed beautifully. At that point, I got to thinking "...who is this amazing band?! Why havn't I heard of them before?!" Then I looked up those lyrics, discovered the song... and laughed out loud.
The Goo Goo Dolls? Are you kidding me? I had heard of them before, but never even given them a chance; who could take a group with a name like that seriously? But let me tell you, I've been thoroughly humbled; a true "don't-judge-a-book-by-its-cover" moment. Never again will I underestimate a band because of their name.
So, do yourself a favor; take a moment to hear Iris; even if the group's name makes you laugh. The music video is simply spectacular.

The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris Music Video

Iris
The Goo Goo Dolls

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

...

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem)

I wouldn't exactly call myself a Good Charlotte "fan", considering I've only ever heard a handful of their songs, but the songs I have heard have caught my attention; one being their "dance floor anthem". The lyrics to this song may hit home for some people, but I believe what makes this song so great is its addicting beat; it really is a song for the dance floor. And I absolutelly love the very beginning; the opening is a little more rock than the rest of the song, and I like it.
Here's Good Charlotte's I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem).

Good Charlotte - I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem) Music Video

I Don't Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem)
Good Charlotte

She’s going out to forget they were together
All that time he was taking her for granted
She wants to see if there’s more
than he gave she’s looking for

He calls her up
He’s trippin' on the phone now
He doesn’t want her out there
And alone now
He knows she’s movin' it
Knows she’s using it
Now he’s losing it
She don’t care

Everybody put up your hands
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
to the beat now
If you’ve got nothing left
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Back it up now
You’ve got a reason to live
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Feelin' good now
Don’t be afraid to get down
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love

He was always giving her attention
looking hard to find the things she mentioned
He was dedicated
By most suckers hated
That girl was fine
But she didn’t appreciate him

She calls him up
She’s tripping on the phone now
He had to get up
And he ain’t comin' home now
He’s tryin' to forget her
That’s how we come with him
When he first met her
When they first got together

Everybody put up your hands
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
feel the beat now
If you got nothing left
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Back it up now
You got a reason to live
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Feelin' good now
Don’t be afraid to get down
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love

To the beat (x3)
You got nothing to lose
Don’t be afraid to get down

We break up
It’s something that we do now
Everyone has got to do it sometime
It’s okay, let it go
Get out there and find someone

It’s too late to be trippin' on the phone here
Get off the wire
You know everything is good here
Stop what you’re doin'
You don’t wanna ruin
The chance that you got to
find a new one

Everybody put up your hands
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
feel the beat now
If you got nothing left
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Back it up now
You got a reason to live
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love
Feelin' good now
Don’t be afraid to get down
Say I don’t wanna be in love
I don’t wanna be in love

It's My Life

...what can I say? I just really love this song. It's hard core in classic Bon Jovi fashion, and I really enjoy the music video as well. The lyrics are powerful and speak a good message of not being afraid to live life your own way. My favorite part of this song, other than the lyrics, may be the keyboard part... wow!
So, here it is; It's My Life, by Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi - It's My Life Music Video

It's My Life
Bon Jovi

This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud

It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just wanna live while I'm alive
It's my life

This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

It's my life
And it's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life

Better stand tall when they're calling you out
Don't bend, don't break, baby, don't back down

It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive

It's my life
And it's now or never
'Cause I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
'Cause it's my life!

What Hurts The Most

I know there has already been a post made on music.is.life about this song (Rascal Flatts' version has been featured on this site), but yet another version of this song has been recorded; this time, by dance diva CASCADA.
A lot of people may not enjoy this version of What Hurts The Most, which has been sung a thousand times over by various artists in a wide range of genres. Some people may argue that CASCADA's trademark dance club style, was not true to the powerful and moving lyrics of this song. I thought I would be one of those people. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed CASCADA's version of this song almost more than Rascal Flatts', although I must admit the country stars' video blows CASCADA's out of the water.
I've already fallen in love with this song, as much of the music world has. Now, let's fall in love all over again with a quick listen to CASCADA's powerful remix.

CASCADA - What Hurts The Most Music Video

What Hurts The Most
CASCADA

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don't bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though goin' on with you gone
Still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend
I'm okay
But that's not what gets me

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin' you walk away
Never knowing
What could have been
And not seein that lovin' you
Is what I was tryin to do

It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I'm doin' it
It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, living with, this regret, but I know
If I could do it over
I would trade, give away, all the words, that I saved, in my heart
That I left unspoken

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin' you walk away
Never knowing
What could have been
And not seein that lovin' you
Is what I was tryin to do

I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone
Still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend
I'm okay
But that's not what gets me

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
Never knowing
What could have been
And not seein that lovin' you
Is what I was tryin to do

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watchin' you walk away
Never knowing
What could have been
And not seein that lovin' you
Is what I was tryin to do

My favorite part of this video? When CASCADA is getting her tattoo (the classic heart with a banner reading Unbreakable) and when the wall is seperating her and the guy who broke her heart.
If you arn't fond of this dance club style of this song (and I have a feeling many people won't be), there's an alternative; CASCADA sung a "candlelight remix" of What Hurts The Most, similar to what she did for her song Every Time We Touch. To hear the CASCADA's What Hurts The Most: Yanou's Candlelight Mix, watch this video. This is not the music video for the remix, but gives you a chance to hear the song.

Leave a comment and let us know what you think of this new version of a very popular song!

Face Down

...I love this song.
That's all there is to it. It's just a fantastic song... the lyrics are so powerful and speak of strength and courage in the most unbearable of situations.
I personally like a certain version of this song better... the version with the screaming. I like the screaming... if the vocalist is screaming and pulling it off well, he's obviously got a lot of passion behind what he's saying, and I like that. It really brings a song together and works beautifully with this song. I was dissapointed that the screamo version is so much shorter (2:50 compared to the radio edit which passes the three minute mark), which forced me to sacrifice quality for quanity; better version vs. longer version.
No matter which version you chose, this really is just an amazing song. So, as always, I'll post the music video and lyrics. The video I found on YouTube is yet another version of this song... I think this may be the original, actually. This version includes a screamo bridge, but lacks the screaming at the end of each chorus, like my version has. Still an awesome song and a great video.
Here it is; Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down Music Video

Face Down
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Hey girl you know you drive me crazy
One walk puts the rhythm in my head
Still I'll never understand why you hang around
I see what's going down

Cover up with make up in the mirror
Tell yourself it's never gonna happen again
You cry alone and then he swears he loves you

Do you feel like a man
When you push her around?
Do you feel better now
As she falls to the ground?
Well I'll tell you my friend
One day this world's going to end
As your lies crumble down
A new life she has found

A pebble in the water makes a ripple effect
Every action in this world will bear a consequence
If you wait around forever you will surely drown
I see what's going down

I see the way you go and say you're right again,
Say you're right again,
Heed my lecture

Do you feel like a man
When you push her around?
Do you feel better now
As she falls to the ground?
Well I'll tell you my friend
One day this world's going to end
As your lies crumble down
A new life she has found

Face down in the dirt, she said
This doesn't hurt, she said
I finally had enough

(Screaming)
One day
She will
Tell you
That she
Had enough
It's coming round again

Do you feel like a man
When you push her around?
Do you feel better now
As she falls to the ground?
Well I'll tell you my friend
One day this world's going to end
As your lies crumble down
A new life she has found

Do you feel like a man
When you push her around?
Do you feel better now
As she falls to the ground?
Well I'll tell you my friend
One day this world's going to end
As your lies crumble down
A new life she has found

Face down in the dirt, she said
This doesn't hurt, she said
I finally had enough

Welcome To The Black Parade

I am completelly in love with the song Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. I think it's just such a powerful song; as the lyrics describe, this song really is an anthem. Reno let me hear the original version of this song rather than the radio edit, and although some people don't like the screaming, I enjoy it; not just in this song, but others too (such as Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; a post on that song to come!). I think the screaming just adds a sense of passion to the song, and it especially fits Welcome To The Black Parade.
So, here is the music video (for the original version, not the radio edit) and lyrics to this fantastic song. At first I didn't think I was going to like the music video, but in the end I really enjoyed it. Anyway, here it is, curtosy of MCR.

My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade Music Video

Welcome To The Black Parade
My Chemical Romance

When I was
A young boy
My father
Took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son when
You grow up
Will you be
The saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"

He said, "Will you
Defeat them
Your demons
And all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?
Because one day
I'll leave you
A phantom
To lead you in the summer
To join the black parade."

When I was
A young boy
My father
Took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son when
You grow up
Will you be
The saviour of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling
She's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall
The bodies in the street
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on, We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
Until my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that sends you reeling
From decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call

To carry on
We'll carry on,
And though your dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on

And on we carry through the fears
The disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look at me
'Cause I could not care at all

Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world
Will never take my heart
Go and try
You’ll never break me
We want it all
We want to play this part

I won’t explain
Or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed
I’m gonna show my scar
Give a cheer
For all the broken
Listen here
Because it’s who we are

I'm just a man
I'm not a hero
Just a boy
Whose meant to sing this song
I'm just a man
I'm not a hero

I
Don't
Care

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on

Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world
Will never take my heart
Go and try
You’ll never break me
We want it all
We want to play this part

I won’t explain
Or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed
I’m gonna show my scar
Give a cheer
For all the broken
Listen here
Because it’s who we are

I'm just a man
I'm not a hero
Just a boy
Who had to sing this song
I'm just a man
I'm not a hero

We'll carry on

Cauterize - One Of My Favorites, Broken Up

I have to say that Cauterize is one of my favorite rock bands. Their songs are always fantastic, and their lyrics are so powerful - a huge plus for me. Personally, a song can have the most amazing melody, but if the lyrics suck... I just won't like the song. Cauterize always has strong lyrics, and when paired with their amazing talents with instruments and vocals, it just gives you an all-around great group to listen to.
This may be old news by now, but I only recently learned the Cauterize had broken up as a band. This was extremelly upsetting news for me, as I enjoy their music so much. After hearing this, I decided to make an almost commemorative post on music.is.life for this group.

Most of my favorite Cauterize songs are from their first album, So Far From Real (cover art above left), but some tracks from their newer albums have caught my attention too. My current favorite Cauterize songs include...

From So Far From Real (2003); Choke, Killing Me, I'll Cry Tomorrow, Taste Of Tears
From Paper Wings (2005): Closer, Paper Wings, Porcelain

A lot of Cauterize's other songs are amazing too, along with all of their lyrics... but for time's sake I will not list them all!
I encourage you to check out this band if you like a good rock sound paired with beautiful lyrics. To give you a taste, I'll post the music video for Choke, which is probably my favorite Cauterize song of them all.

Cauterize - Choke Music Video

Choke
Cauterize

There's nothing that I can say
To make you want to stay here with me forever
There's nothing that I can do
To make you want me like I need you to
I need you to

Just give me one last chance to say this
Just give me one last chance to say what's on my mind
And I will get it right

If I could only get my head above the water for a moment (a moment of your time)
But you seem so strong and I can't hold my breath for long
Have you ever tried to scream under water?
You'll choke

You said I always sang too loud
To sing you a love song
Well I save my soft voice for the things I really mean
You always said I had a hard time
Saying what's on my mind
Well, here it goes, I hate you
For what you've done to me

Just give me one last chance to say this
Just give me one last chance to say what's on my mind
And I will get it right

If I could only get my head above the water for a moment (a moment of your time)
But you seem so strong and I can't hold my breath for long
Have you ever tried to scream under water?
You'll choke

When the last word's been said
And the last tear's been shed
I will miss you, miss you, my friend
And I can't tell you lies
Even after all these years
I still cry

If you liked that, I encourage you to check out more Cauterize lyrics and to do your own listening to music by this awesome group. Cauterize fans new and old can appreciate the music they did put out before the end of their relatively short-lived career.
Goodbye, boys - new Cauterize music will be dearly missed.

It Ends Tonight

Hmm...
Not entirely sure what compelled me to post about this song tonight. I just think it's a beautiful song, with amazing lyrics too, and besides that, it's been stuck in my head all day.
So, here it is, It Ends Tonight by The All-American Rejects.

The All-American Rejects - It Ends Tonight Music Video

It Ends Tonight
The All-American Rejects

Your subtleties they strangle me
I can't explain myself at all
And all the wants, and all the needs
All I don't want to need at all

The walls start breathing, my mind's unweaving
Maybe it's best you leave me alone
A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight

A falling star, at least I fall alone
I can't explain what you can't explain
You're finding things that you didn't know
I look at you with such disdain

The walls start breathing, my mind's unweaving
Maybe it's best you leave me alone
A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Just a little insight won't make this right
It's too late to fight, it ends tonight, it ends tonight

Now I'm on my own side
It's better than being on your side
It's my fault when you're blind
It's better that I see it through your eyes

All these thoughts locked inside
Now you're the first to know

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Just a little insight won't make this right
It's too late to fight, it ends tonight

It ends when darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Just a little insight won't make this right
It's too late to fight, it ends tonight, it ends tonight
Tonight, insight
When darkness turns to light it ends tonight

Ode to our Heros

Hey guys I would like to post some lyrics of some of the best "Hero" songs that I've heard. I know there's tons of others with incredible lyrics, but these songs you HAVE to have, or at least hear, so please enjoy some very moving lyrics and take a minute to remember the heros in your life...

Hero - Enrique Iglesias

Would you dance if I asked you to dance?
Would you run and never look back
Would you cry if you saw me crying
Would you save my soul tonight?
Would you tremble if I touched your lips?
Would you laugh oh please tell me these
Now would you die for the one you love?
Hold me in your arms tonight?

I can be you hero baby
I can kiss away the pain
I will stand by you forever
You can take my breath away

Hero - Mariah Carey ( I would love to post this whole song cuz the lyrics are just too good, but here's a link to the video instead - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWlS8Oerx8o )

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

Hero - Superchick

You could be a hero,
Heroes do what’s right,
You could be a hero,
You might save a life,
You could be a hero,
you could join the fight,
For what’s right, for what’s right, for what’s right...

Enrique & Celine - Coincidence???

Reno recently introduced me to the music of Enrique Iglesias, and although I haven't heard much of his music yet, I must say what I have heard has me hooked. He is an amazing vocalist and his lyrics are beautiful. I really can't wait to hear more from this amazing artist; at this time, my favorite of his songs include Somebody's Me, Tired of Being Sorry, Escape, and Hero.
However, the main purpose of this post isn't entirely about Enrique. The first time I ever heard Enrique's Somebody's Me, I had an instant, strong deja-vu; his voice reminded me so much of somebody else's!
His inflections and the passion in his voice was very similar to one of my favorite vocalists, Celine Dion. I asked Reno if she thought the same thing, and she agreed; the two sounded very similar. My sister's response, however, was the one that proved me and Reno weren't the only two who thought this. I was playing Somebody's Me on the computer, and my sister suddenly looked up and asked "Wait...why is a guy singing Taking Chances?!"
It's true; these two songs sound eerily similar. Take a look - er, listen - for yourself.

I was reluctant to post the music video for Somebody's Me on a blog where anyone could see it because the video is not exactly "kid friendly" ;) So, instead, please click here to hear a thirty second preview of the song. This actually worked out nicely, because those thirty seconds are exactly the part of the song that reminds us of Taking Chances; the first few lines of the chorus, specifically (somebody wants you / somebody needs you / somebody dreams about you every single night).

Celine's video is one I could post. However, I could not find the official video in a version I could embed onto this blog, so I had to settle for a different video, with the same song.
Now, pay close attention; after listening to the chorus of Somebody's Me, see if it reminds you at all of the first chorus of Taking Chances (what do you say to taking chances / what do you say to jumping off the edge)...

Creepy, huh???
Even if these two songs sound eerily similar, there is no doubt that both Enrique and Celine are outstanding artists with their own unique styles. And I have to say, I am now a fan of them both.

Axl Rose rocks hard core!

K cowgirl we need a little diversity in this blog cuz I aint no country bumpkin. Our new Christian artists seriouslly rock as we know but there's nothing like old, classic rock. So check out these songs, I can assure you, though the bands themselves may me more degrading then playboy, all these lyrics are totally clean, and a lot of them actually very very pretty.

Guns 'n Roses -
*November Rain (the prettiest song EVA! maybe)
*Sweet Child 'O Mine (the coolest guitar parts eva)
*Don't Cry (vocals aren't incredible but the lyrics are)
*Paradice City (opposite, lyrics stink but the beat rocks!)

Black Sabbath -
*Iron Man

Kansas -
*Carry On My Wayward Son
*Can't Cry Anymore (depressing, but amzing lyrics)
they have a lot of GOOD songs there's too many to write, I'll get on that =)

Led Zepplin -
*Stairway to Heaven (every iPod needs that song...)

Red Hot Chili Peppers - (too many good songs again, I promise I'll get back to them too)

And then here's some newers songs that I am so in love with....

Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down
Linkin Park - Faint, Breaking the Habit, What I've Done, In the End, and lots more
Nickelback - If Everyone Cared, also Photograph and some otheres are alright
Good Charlotte - I Just Wanna Live

So that should keep you busy for a while. Those are from the top of my head so I'll sit down with Edward (my MP3 player) one of these days and just list awesome songs lol.

By the way Axl Rose was HOT in his 20s in case you care, and also you should know their songs are cursed; I went walking outside once, this month lol, and November Rain came on and it started pouring, then another time I was upset and about to just bawl and "Don't Cry" came on. So I'll be back....still gotta overpower the actually good county songs on here.......

Finger Eleven - Rock On!

In my list of favorite rock bands, I must say Finger Eleven is pretty high up there. I first heard their music on a video game, actually - the snowboarding game 1080: Avalance features a lot of their songs as background music. After hearing them on the game, I was impressed by their music and was interested in hearing more. I have yet to explore the rest of the band's songs, but my favorites at the present time are definantly Other Light, Good Times, and Conversations, all featured on the video game.

Here is the music video for Good Times, which might be my favorite of their songs right now. The video isn't too exciting, but it gives you a chance to hear the song. I've got the lyrics for the song posted, too. Rock on!

Finger Eleven - Good Times Music Video

Good Times
Finger Eleven

Something has stuck in underneath my skin
Eyes all looking in for something within
Somewhere in here

Now everything I say gives this all away
Senses deadened again
Nothing lives today
Not in here

Here in your head

Careful what you’re feeling on the inside
You should try to remember the good times and the high life
Are you feeling alright?

Felt that I belonged
And now I feel that gone
Where it all went wrong
I traced it all along
Back here again

There was something calling me to negativity
Dark covering me
Shrouding every scene I’m cast in

Careful what you’re feeling on the inside
You should try to remember the good times and the high life
Are you feeling alright?

Careful, when you're feeling, out of your mind
You should try to remember
The storm lines, in the spotlight, till you're feeling, all right.

Please answer
I’m calling just to find out
If you could be here for me when I crack
The answer came
I found it buried in the trash there
I saw it stare…

Careful what you’re feeling on the inside
You should try to remember the good times and the high life
Are you feeling alright?

Careful, when you're feeling, out of your mind
You should try to remember
The storm lines, in the spotlight, till you're feeling, all right.

Careful what you’re feeling on the inside
You should try to remember the good times and the high life
Are you feeling alright?

Taylor Swift - "Taylor Swift"

Taylor Swift; when she's good, she's really good. When she's not...
This young country star made her debut with Tim McGraw, the song that really put her in the spotlight. The soul-filled melodies and deep lyrics of this song really worked well for the young artist, and I believe this type of song is more Taylor's style. I bet a lot of people were shocked (I know I was!) when they purchased Taylor's debut album and heard some of her more upbeat tracks; the difference in styles was staggering.
Here is an album review for Taylor's self-titled album. While much of it may sound negative, I want to say I am a big fan of Taylor's music, and feel she has a lot of potential. However, I think a lot of the tracks on this album were forced or just simply thrown together. Since Taylor wrote or co-wrote all the lyrics herself (which is admirable, I believe), all of the songs are geared toward an audience of teenage girls; while some of her lyrics are deep and thoughtful, some may seem too much like typical high school drama. In the end, I think Taylor is very much a "love her or hate her" kind of artist, with her vocals being the deciding factor.
Anyway, here's the review.

Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift

1. Tim McGraw - her first, and one of her best, for sure. The vocals in this song are pure and not forced, which is more than can be said about later tracks. This song of summer love & loss hit home for a lot of teenage girls out there; just a great track.
2. Picture To Burn - not my favorite. I believe the lyrics are immature (so go and tell your friends that I'm obsessive and crazy /
that's fine; I'll tell mine you're gay
) and she definantly forced a country sound into her vocals that doesn't come naturally, and at points her voice gets pitchy. On a plus side, it does have a catchy beat, if you like that real country sound.
3. Teardrops On My Guitar - Without a doubt her best song to date. This song is just absolutely beautiful. The lyrics are so powerful, and the melodies & harmonies are gorgeous. It is obvious that Taylor's voice is more natural in this track than in others. My favorite of her songs, by far.
4. A Place In This World - good, but not greats. I like the lyrics, which speak of a young woman, well, trying to find her place in the world. Taylor's vocals arn't 100% in this track, but nothing stands out as being terrible. A pretty decent song, really.
5. Cold As You - another one of my favorites. I really like the melody, and Taylor's vocals arn't bad either. I think the vocals in this song are powerful as well. Taylor's vocals come naturally in this track as well.
6. The Outside - unlike a lot of her more upbeat songs, Taylor actually pulls this one off without her voice getting too pitchy. It's a shame she couldn't get the best of both worlds; great lyrics & vocals in one song. While the lyrics of this song may not be as powerful, it's not enough to completelly ruin the track.
7. Tied Together With A Smile - beautiful, powerful lyrics make this song amazing. Taylor's vocals are nice in this song as well, and while some people may not enjoy the true country sound of this track's melodies, I think it adds an element to this heartbreaking song.
8. Stay Beautiful - I was actually dissapointed by this track. I read the lyrics online and expected it to be a slow, deep song like some of her others. Instead, this track turned out be be fast-paced, with Taylor's vocals sounding only slightly forced. I think the lyrics of this song are really what saved it; they're the only reason I still listen to it on occasion.
9. Should've Said No - a surprisingly good track. The only "angry" track on Taylor's album, the young artist actually pulled off the mood remarkably well. At points her voice gets slightly pitchy, but for the most part, this is a very nice song. I really love the melody.
10. Mary's Song (Oh My My My) - I havn't actually listened to this track all that much, quite simply because it just didn't appeal to me at first. I think this is a song that could grow on you with time, but isn't a stand-out. I do like Taylor's voice on this track, and the lyrics are pretty deep too.
11. Our Song - this track is just now making its debut on the local radio stations, mostly by request. It isn't a bad song; the lyrics are alright and the melody isn't bad either. It kind of falls apart at the very end, when Taylor forces a very specific sound onto her voice in the last chorus (when we're on the phone and he talks real slow / 'cause it's late and his momma don't know). Other than that one part, the song is pretty tolerable, overall.

If you're interested in Taylor's first album, here are some links that you may want to check out.

The lyrics to all the songs on Taylor's debut album can be found here.

I will also post the music video for what I believe is Taylor's best song; Teardrops On My Guitar. Not only is this a beautiful song, but the music video is fantastic as well.

Enjoy.

Boston

I'll admit; I don't know a lot about rock, pop, or hip-hop. Country's more my thing. I don't know a lot of the artists, bands or songs that the rest of the world claims are number one.
What I do know is that I heard Augustana's Boston on the radio once when it became popular on the local stations, and have been madly in love ever since. I had never heard of Augustana and had never heard any of their other songs - I still havn't, in fact - but Boston definantly least stole my attention.
I think it's hard for a group to mix such beautiful melodies and deep lyrics into a rock song, and pull it off with such charisma that it leaves you feeling something special when the last chord fades away. Augustana rose the the challenge amazingly well with Boston. Not only is the song a musical marvel, the music video, which I will post, is a literal work of art. And the lyrics? Pure poetry.
Here it is; Boston by Augustana.

Boston Music Video

Boston
Augustana

In the light of the sun, is there anyone?
Oh it has begun
Oh dear you look so lost, eyes are red and tears are shed
This world you must've crossed
She said...

You don't know me and you don't even care, oh yeah
Well you said....
You don't know me and you don't wear my chains, oh yeah...

Essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts across an open field
Where the flowers gaze at you...they're not the only ones who cry
When they see you
You said...

You don't know me and you don't even care, oh yeah
Well you said...
You don't know me and you don't wear my chains, oh yeah

She said I think I'll go to Boston

I think I'll start a new life,
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name,
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather,
I think I'll get a lover and fly em' out to Spain
I think I'll go to Boston,
I think that I'm just tired,
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset,
I hear it's nice in the Summer, some snow would be nice

Whoa yeah..

You don't know me, and you don't even care
Whoa, yeah...

In Boston, where no one knows my name
Where no one knows my name
Where no one knows my name
In Boston, where no one knows my name

Sadie Hawkins Dance

I'm a Relient K fan, and with my own high school's Sadies dance coming up (December 1st) I find this song extremelly amusing. I've never actually heard it, but I found it on iTunes and looked up the lyrics...oh my, so funny.
So ya. This one goes out to all my buds; lets all get siked for Sadies!

Sadie Hawkins Dance
Relient K

All the girls in the bathroom talking
Who they gonna take to the Sadie Hawkins
My ears are burning but I kept on walking
Smile on my face and an air guitar rocking

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

Sitting in the back of my next class napping
Got up, gave a speech, then bowed to the clapping
Told a funny joke got the whole class laughing
Think I got a tan from the light which I was basking

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

Scan the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I'd like a beating
I said that's one thing I won't be needing
And since I'm rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning

She said, "You're smooth, and good with talking.
You're going with me to the Sadie Hawkins"

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

What Hurts The Most

I really love this song (What Hurts The Most, by Rascal Flatts), but my main purpose for making this post is to showcase the beautiful music video. I remember the first time I ever watched this video, it just about sent me to tears... Be warned, it's a very powerful video, and I don't think I'm the only one who would be moved by it.
Either way, enjoy the video, and the lyrics, which I'll post here, too.

Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most Music Video

What Hurts The Most
Rascal Flatts

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do

It’s hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I’m doin’ It
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

Not seeing that loving you
That’s what I was trying to do

TobyMac - Dare To Be Different

What's the best way to describe Toby McKeehan?? This artist, better known as TobyMac, and his music are anything but ordinary, and I think Tonya Parker Morrison summed them up best in her article she wrote about TobyMac in the American Chronicle (August 22, 2005; read the entire article here):

If Christian pop, hip hop and rap had a child, the offspring would most certainly be Toby McKeehan, better known as tobyMac.

You said it, girl. TobyMac has "wow"-ed listeners of all musical preferences with his inspiring and always fun songs. But what's so appealing about this artist??
I believe TobyMac's greatest strength is the diversity of his music, as Morrison pointed out. TobyMac's songs are one of a kind, mixing hip-hop beats with rap vocals. These are definantly songs you can listen to over and over again, without them ever getting old.

I am a new TobyMac fan; Reno made me a mixed CD of songs from albums Diverse City and Portable Sounds, and those songs have been rockin' on my iPod ever since. Before Reno's enlightenment, I was a fan of some of TobyMac's old tracks; Atmosphere (Remix) and Gone were my favorites, and I still enjoy them. Also a fan of the Christian group Superchic[k], I loved the rap accompaniment TobyMac recorded in Superchic[k]'s song, Stories (Down To The Bottom).
Some of my current TobyMac favs include Diverse City, Boomin', I'm For You, No Ordinary Love, Feelin' So Fly, Ignition, Catchafire (Whoopsi-Daisie), and Made To Love.

But as much good as I can say about this artist, the best way to appreciate TobyMac is by hearing one of his songs yourself. So, here it is, the music video for TobyMac's Boomin' - one of my favorite songs.

TobyMac - Boomin' Music Video

Like whatcha hear?? I encourage you to check out some more of TobyMac's music; this group really is one in a million.
And if you didn't like this song? Don't worry. No two TobyMac songs are the same...do some research, and check out some other Toby tracks. I can guarantee that this artist's diversity will not leave you disappointed.

Music in Poetry

I recieved this poem as a handout today in English, and I just really loved it. I thought the words were so true...
At first I thought it was stretching the boundaries of what this site was about, posting a poem, but then again, songs really are just poems set to music... And can there be boundaries to a site about music? Can music have boundaries? I don't believe so.
In the end, I decided to share this with ya'll. And if you think about it, the words do kind of fit this site...
Anyway, enjoy.

Music

Music-it has the power
against myself to control my emotions
and that creates a need
for me to own it
and control myself.
Each new genre of music
releases an explosion inside myself
of adrenalin which I am eager
to run off and use.
Every music store is
an Amazon of new bands
fighting to release their
own personal effects on everybody.
But I am also fighting
to try the new bands first
and accept and enjoy the effects
that music throws at me.

Think Of Me

Reno, you silly head...you forgot Think Of Me! I agree that the other songs rock too, but this one is my favorite. Angel Of Music is probably second on the list, followed by Music of the Night in a close third.
I absolutelly love the lyrics! This song is absolutelly beautiful, whether it means anything to you or not. But if it doesn't touch your heart...I think there's something wrong with you.
I agree with Reno...Phantom Of The Opera is a fabulous musical gone book gone movie, although I've only seen the movie. I can imagine the book is good, too...ask Reno. But I bet the musical blows them all out of the water.
Anyway, here are the lyrics to Think Of Me... In the movie, the female vocals are sung by Christine, and the male vocals are sung by Raoul.

Think Of Me
From the Film Phantom Of The Opera

{female vocals}
Think of me, think of me fondly,
when we've said goodbye.
Remember me once in a while -
please promise me you'll try.
When you find that, once again, you long
to take your heart back and be free -
if you ever find a moment,
spare a thought for me

We never said our love was evergreen,
or as unchanging as the sea -
but if you can still remember
stop and think of me . . .

Think of all the things
we've shared and seen -
don't think about the things
which might have been . . .

Think of me, think of me waking,
silent and resigned.
Imagine me, trying too hard
to put you from my mind.
Recall those days
look back on all those times,
think of the things we'll never do -
there will never be a day,
when I won't think of you . . .

{male vocals}
Can it be? Can it be Christine?
Bravo!
Long ago, it seems so long ago
How young and innocent we were...
She may not remember me,
but I remember her...

{female vocals}
Flowers fades,
The fruits of summer fade,
They have decisions, so do we
but please promise me, that sometimes
you will think of me!

Phantom of the Opera!

Hey guys, new music genre for ya, if you've never seen Andrew Lloyed Webber's, Phantom of the Opera you have missed an absolutely amazing performance with some of the best singers, lyrics, and music of all time. Needless to say, watch it as soon as you possibly can. Emmy Rossum is stunning, "voice like an angel" as she is suppose to have, she fits the part absolutely perfectly, she is such an amazing actress and vocalist, and only 17 when she filmed Phantom! Gerard Butler has a very unoperatic voice but is amazing as well. The lyrics for all of the songs are incredible, just breath taking, and with the musics the entire thing is just, omg there's no words that can desribe it....so, here are some lyrics from my favorite songs, not all of the lyrics sometimes, but some favorites and samples...

Phantom of the Opera

In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
and speaks my name
And do I dream again
for now I find
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside my mind

Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you
grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me
to glance behind
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside your mind

Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear
It's me they hear...

Your/My spirit and my/your voice
in one combined
The Phantom of the Opera is thereInside my/your mind

*the your / mys are where the Phantom and Christine are both singing one of them, Christine says Your spirit and my voice, while the Phantom says My spirit and your voice, meaning together they make up the whole song. The meaning behind all the lyrics is incredible...

Angel of Music

Father once spoke of an angel
I used to dream he'd appear
Now as I sing, I can sense him
And I know he's here
Here in this room he calls me softly
Somewhere inside hiding
Somehow I know he's always with me
He, the unseen genius

This is an amazing verse by Emmy, she just nails it, so beautifully.

Music of the Night by far has the most incredible lyrics, I have to add the whole of them here, it's the Phantom's solo, and the words are just so so true and gorgeous, I cannot get enough of this song!

Music of the Night

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation.
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
Silently the senses abandon their defences

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour.
Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender.
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night...

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness that you know you cannot fight
the darkness of the music of the night.

Let your mind start a journeythrough a strange, new world!
Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before!
Let your soul take you where you long to be!
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

Well I was going to bold the phrases I liked the most but I think I would have nearly the entire song bolded, these lyrics are just too perfect. There are so many other great lyrical songs in the movie, here's a link http://www.stlyrics.com/t/thephantomoftheopera.htm to all of the song lyrics, so please see the movie, please listen to the songs, and be ready to just become obbsessed with it.

Brad Paisley - Never A Dull Moment

Country music just wouldn't be the same without Brad Paisley.

I believe it's Brad's lyricists that really made him famous. His songs are always worth a laugh, and every one is 100% country.
Older Brad hits include his "fishin' song" I'm Gonna Miss Her (2001) and Celebrity (2003). Some of his newer tracks, including Ticks (2007) and Online (2007) have stayed true to Brad's trademark legacy of quirky lyrics and country flare. Even when he slows down the tempo and his lyrics turn to a more serious mood, Brad seems to always make it big with the fans - chosing to sing a duet with Alison Krauss was a smart move that put the hauntingly beautiful Whiskey Lullaby at the top of the charts for a very long time.

For Brad Paisley lyrics, check out this site. The lyrics for all his albums are here, including the songs mentioned above.

And here is the music video to I'm Gonna Miss Her, curtosy of YouTube. If you get the chance, I also recommend watching the music video for Celebrity. Both songs & videos are hilarious...nice work, Brad.

Celine Dion - Always Amazing

Alright guys, I'm going to state an opinion here - if anyone says that Celine Dion is anything less than an amazingly talented vocalist, they've got something wrong in the head. Alright? Good. Glad we're on the same page here.
I first fell in love with Celine when she moved us all with the vocals to "My Heart Will Go On", the love theme in the remarkable 1997 film, Titanic. I've never purchased a Celine album or listened to any of her other songs, but I don't doubt for a second that any of those songs are breathtaking as well.
Now I have another reason to adore this fantastic vocalist; Celine Dion's outstanding voice graced the latest promo for the new CBS TV series Moonlight, a show about a Private Investigator who leads a secret life as a vampire. I fell in love with the promo first - I am a huge fan of Moonlight, even though it's only aired two episodes so far - but later paid closer attention to the lyrics of the song Celine sings, titled "Taking Chances".
Below are the lyrics to Celine Dion's "Taking Chances", as well as the promo for Moonlgiht, curtosy of YouTube.
Enjoy.

Taking Chances
Celine Dion

Don't know much about your life
Don't know much about your world, but
Don't want to be alone tonight,
On this planet they call earth

You don't know about my past, and
I don't have a future figured out
And maybe this is going too fast
And maybe it's not meant to last,

{chorus}
But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?

I just want to start again,
And maybe you could show me how to try,
And maybe you could take me in,
Somewhere underneath your skin?

{chorus}

And I had my heart beaten down,
But I always come back for more, yeah
There’s nothing like love to pull you up,
When you’re laying down on the floor there
So talk to me, talk to me,
Like lovers do
Yeah walk with me, walk with me,
Like lovers do,
Like lovers do

{chorus}

Don’t know much about your life
And I don’t know much about your world...

Moonlight Promo

I improved it for ya...

Ha ha ha thank you cowgirl. Sorry about dissing your song today lol, I just caught the last line of the chorus, it made me laugh, and I still disagree, though the lyrics are cute. Here's some better ones though, by mwaa, I just had to alter them a little....

She's riding in the middle of his Mercedes Benz
Blaring Bon Jovi, yelling, Watch the front ends!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love rich boys

Ha ha ha totally jk but it was still fun.

Ladies Love Country Boys

Thought I'd post the lyrics to the song "Ladies Love Country Boys", another great one by Trace Adkins. Reno made me laugh when she heard this for the first time and said she "had to disagree" with the lyrics. Love ya, girl, but you just don't have the same appreciation as me for a good country song :D

Ladies Love Country Boys
Trace Adkins

She grew up in the city in a little subdivision
Her daddy wore a tie, mama never fried a chicken
Ballet, straight-A's, most likely to succeed
They bought her a car after graduation
Sent her down South for some higher education
Put her on the fast track to a law degree

Now she's coming home to visit
Holding the hand of a wild-eyed boy
With a farmer's tan

She's riding in the middle of his pickup truck
Blaring Charlie Daniels, yelling, Turn it up!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love country boys

You know mamas and daddies want better for their daughters
Hope they'll settle down with a doctor or a lawyer
And their uptown, ball gown, hand-me-down royalty

They never understand why their princess falls
For some camouflage britches and a southern boy drawl

Or why she's riding in the middle of a pickup truck
Blaring Hank Jr., yelling, Turn it up!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love country boys

You can train 'em, you can try to teach 'em right from wrong
But its still gonna turn 'em on

When they go riding in the middle of a pickup truck
Blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd, yelling, Turn it up!
You can raise her up a lady but there's one thing
You just can't avoid
Ladies love country boys

And the video...as always, Trace pulled off another hilarious music video. This one comes to ya'll curtosy of YouTube.
And, naturally, our "country boy" is driving a Silverado. Chevy rocks my world ;)

Bring Me To Life

As Reno mentioned, Evanescence really does rock. I can't get enough of Amy's haunting vocals, and the way the band sounds as a whole is amazing; I think the ballads are their strength, although the harder rock songs are really great as well.
I don't own any Evanescence albumbs, but purchased "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life" off of iTunes, and they now grace the inner workings of my iPod. If there are any devoted Evanescence fans out there reading this, please give me some tips on top Evanescence songs...I have only heard a few. Someday - when I have money - I plan on purchasing "Taking Over Me" via the power of the internet.

My English 1 class is focusing on poetry at the moment, and, since songs are really just poems set to music, my English teacher gave the class a homework assignment that involved writing down a little bit of our favorite song and telling the class why we liked it. I don't have a "favorite" song - how on earth could I choose?! - but "Bring Me To Life" rocks hard core, so I chose that one. I ended up writing down the first verse and chorus to share with the class.

Anyway. Here are the lyrics; enjoy.

Bring Me To Life
Evanescence

{verse one}
How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

{chorus}
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I’ve become

{verse two}
Now that I know what I’m without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

{chorus}

{bridge}
Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch without your love
Darling only you are the life among the dead

{verse three; duet}
All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought without a voice without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life

{chorus}

(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
Bring me to life

I'm game!

Cowgirl this sounds like an awesome idea, if I get the time I'll definately post on here! I agree completly, I dunno where I would be in life without my music, ok I'll be honest I dunno if I'd still be in life without my music, it's so just...such an everything for me. I'm not extreamly opinionated but I have a good ear with music so I can definately add in here any flaws someone forgot to fix : D

In my opinion the song really has to have it all to be amazing. I mean, I couldn't even tell you the most important thing in a song to me, as far as lyrics, tune, backgroud, instruments, it all just has to fit perfectly to be a number one. I'm open to new music and sounds of course, my friend just got me into techno and I'd never really given it a chance but I really enjoy it! And this Italian group, they're really cool too. So I'm open to new ideas and would love anyone's opinons of groups to check out.

Personally my fovrite sound is the loud guitars paired with sweet piano, duh, think Evanescence meets Skillet, you got it. So that's me, but Toby definately rocks and some other hip hop is alright, I was in a hip hop phase a little while ago. Love slow songs, of course, love guitars, and really really love the unhuman little effects they add in stuff, computerized sounds. I'm puting together an album of my own actually, Reno's gonna rock someday, so that's taking up a lot of my time but I absolutely love it so it's all good, naturally. So that's me, what about anyone else???

Skillet rocks my socks!

I totally agree, Skillet is amzing. I don't like Looking for Angels though, and Rebirthing is ok sometimes but other times I don't like it, other than that my opinions are almost exactly the same as yours. My faves are The Last Night, Yours to Hold, and Whispers in the Dark....if I had to choose, no, Don't Say Goodbye has to be on there too....ugh, I love them all....

So we know Skillet totally is a fave and anyone who disagrees is out of wack, so what are some other awesome groups? Evanescence of course, TobyMac's pretty sweet, Kutless is alright, I used to really love them but now all the songs are starting to kinda meld together...hmmmm, I love Stellar Kart when I'm in a really happy mood, but when I'm not I can't stand them lol, but very nice vocals. I have a feeling I'm missing something very big....dunno what though....help me out here....

Skillet - "Comatose"

I recentlly purchased Skillet's new album, Comatose, and I must say I am very pleased. I first heard Skillet off of a mix CD of different Christian artists (X: 17 Christian Rock Hits! 2007) and after falling in love with "Rebirthing" I decided to buy the group's newest CD when I saw it at the mall.
There isn't a song on the album that I don't like. Although there are some that I like more than others, as a whole, the CD is definantly worth every penny - the mix of great vocals and intense instrumentals in one you don't find very often.
Here's a list of the songs, and why I love them.

Skillet - Comatose

1. Rebirthing - the song that first got me hooked on Skillet. I think the female vocals in the chorus (breathe for the first time now / i have come alive somehow) add an extra element to this rock song.
2. The Last Night - one of my absolute favorites. The deep lyrics are matched with a beautiful keyboard part. Again, the female vocals - this time a solo - add a softer, almost painful element to a beautiful song.
3. Yours To Hold - absolutelly beautiful. Although written with a Christian message and a male point of view, any broken-hearted teenage girl can relate to these lyrics, myself included. The acoustic in this song is a good break from the screaming guitars in the previous tracks.
4. Better Than Drugs - not my favorite. Although the message is good, something about comparing the Lord and drugs just didn't appeal to me. Other than that, a good rock song with exceptional vocals, as always.
5. Comatose - the title track does not dissapoint. Again, a keyboard accompaniment gives an edge to the electric guitars, and the lyrics are to die for. Wonderful song in all.
6. The Older I Get - another one that is lower on my list of favorites. Softer than this album's other tracks, I think it lacks some of the essence of Skillet's other songs. I do enjoy the vocals and lyrics, though.
7. Those Nights - a song anyone used to denying life's hardships is sure to relate to. The lyrics of this song celebrate the memory of two friends who bonded to fight their battles together. A catchy beat ties this song together.
8. Falling Into Black - slightly softer, but still similar in essence to the album's other rock tracks, the lyrics to this song are a cry for help from life's darkness. A great song, but not top on my list of favorites.
9. Say Goodbye - the slowest song on the track, this song speaks of a relationship on the brink of disaster, and one person who doesn't want to let go. The lyrics reminisce on times long gone, while the vocals and instrumentals grow both in volume and intensity as the song goes on. Definantly one of my favorites.
10. Whispers In The Dark - probably one of the most hard-core rock tracks on the album, the lyrics of this song declare that we are never alone, and reminds us of the Lord's everlasting love. I love the electric guitar solo after the second verse.
11. Looking For Angels - Skillet wraps up their album with a truly unique song, in which the verses are simply spoken in an almost rap fashion, and the chorus evolves into an more melodic feel with an up-beat rock temp. The lyrics describe the modern world, and how we can all do our part to ease the pain and suffering that is ever present.

What's This All About?

Hey, everyone, it's cowgirl4christ. I'm here to explain what this new blog, music.is.life, is all about.
I am a huge music fan. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have music in my life. I usually find myself drawn in by lyrics, but, being the band geek that I am, I am able to appreciate a good melody or harmony. And when you get an artist or band who can really sing...wow.
I dedication to my obsession with everything musical, I've created music.is.life. At first, I wanted it to be a collection of my favorite songs, lyrics & artists, but then I thought, "Why should it just be my opinion?" That was when I invited my two best friends, lil'emo and Reno, to contribute their own ideas & opinions to this blog as well. Right now the invitation is still pending, but I hope they both accept and voice their musical opinions here.
But what is this blog all about?
Basically, it's a chance for me and my friends to let the world know what we think about music. If we hear a new song on the radio that we just can't get enough of, we can talk about it here; we could post the lyrics or a link to a music video, and talk about what it is we like about the song. Or, if there's a group out there we just can't stand, we can write about it here as well; there's sure to be interesting controversy. If we were feeling creative one day, we could even post lyrics for a song we wrote ourselves for the world wide web to read. There really is no limit to what we could write here, as long as, in the end, it all ties back to music.
I don't know how this will turn out; it may be a thriving success, or it may just end up being a collection or random thoughts. I understand that my friends - and even myself, at times - have better things to do than post to a blog. Even so, I hope that, if nothing else, boredom may influence me & my friends to post something.
So, this is the first post. What's next? I guess we'll find out soon enough.
