9 Crimes

I can't believe I haven't posted about this song yet.
It's simply beautiful. The faint piano melody flowing steadily behind a lovely mix of male and female vocals, singing such powerful, heartfelt lyrics ... And later, the winning combination of keys and violin ...
Everything about this song just gives me shivers. It's so simple, and yet, it has such an impact on the listener. The vocals are delivered with such a passion throughout the piece, and as the instrumental melody crescendos in the final choruses and then suddenly dies off at the end of the song ... So much emotion!
The music video is a real masterpiece.
Here's 9 Crimes, by Damien Rice, featuring Lisa Hannigan.

Damien Rice - 9 Crimes Official Music Video

9 Crimes
Damien Rice feat. Lisa Hannigan

(Female Vocals)
Leave me out with the waste, this is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place to be thinking of you
It's the wrong, time, for somebody new
It's a small, crime, and I've got no excuse

Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright?
If you don't shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it?
Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
Is that alright, with you?

(Male Vocals)
Leave me out with the waste, this is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place to be cheating on you
It's the wrong, time, she's pulling me through
It's a small, crime, and I've got no excuse

Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright?)*
If you don't shoot it, how am I supposed to hold it?
Is that alright?
Give my gun away when it's loaded
(Is that alright?)*
Is that alright, is that alright with you?

Is that alright, yeah?
Is that alright with you?

No...

Broken

I am so obsessed with this song.
A fan of both Evanescence and Seether, combining the two seemed like a given anyway. But, paired with beautiful, heart-wrenching lyrics and melodies ... no wonder this song has gotten so popular so fast.
This one breaks my heart every time. The emotion Shaun Morgan (of Seether) and Amy Lee (of Evanescence) both put into this song is more than words can describe. Shaun's edgy, classic-rock voice adds the perfect essence of pain and loneliness, and when paired with Amy's powerful, higher range ... it just gives you shivers. The melodies are perfectly presented and the lyrics are simply lovely. My favorite part may be the end, when the chorus is repeated over and over, adding intense guitar riffs as well as an electric violin ... wow.
The music video takes my breath away.
All in all, I just love this song. There's not much else I can say. One of those songs that doesn't even need an explanation ... just take a listen, and you'll know what I mean.
This is Broken, by Seether, featuring Amy Lee.

Seether - Broken Music Video, featuring Amy Lee

Broken
Seether featuring Amy Lee

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

You've gone away, you don't feel me, anymore

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore

Beat It

Fall Out Boy recently recorded a cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It, which was recorded with the help of guitarist John Mayer (ooh! three for one deal! three artists, one track! o.0 lol). The cover gained huge success both as a single and featured on Fall Out Boy's latest DVD/CD release, ****Live In Phoenix. Today the official music video for Fall Out Boy's cover was released on the Fall Out Boy website, and I have to admit, I was hugely impressed. To honor the release of this brand new Fall Out Boy music video, I thought I'd post about the song on music.is.life.
I'm going to get this out of the way; I've never heard Michael Jackson's recording of this song; the only version of Beat It that I've ever heard is Fall Out Boy's cover. But, I must say that this song is extremely catchy, with a fantastic beat and awesome instrumentals; the guitar solo John Mayer plays in the cover is jaw-dropping! Patrick's vocals in this new release are outstanding, and the lyrics are great. All in all, a really fun track to listen to.
This music video is awesome, and I am very impressed with Fall Out Boy and their abilities to make great videos; but, not only are their videos great, it seems that they have a lot of fun filming them as well. Apparently Beat It's video is full of Michael Jackson references ... I'm not a fan of Michael Jackson and wouldn't recognize the references, so those of you who are fans, pay attention!
Thanks to the glory of YouTube and the speed in which things travel the Internet these days, you can watch this brand new release, right here, on music.is.life. So whether you're a Michael Jackson fan or a Fall Out Boy fan ... enjoy an awesome song!

Beat It
Fall Out Boy featuring John Mayer
Originally recorded by Michael Jackson

They told him don't you ever come around here
Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it

You better run, you better do what you can
Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man
You wanna be tough, better do what you can
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it
Just beat it, beat it

They're out to get you, better leave while you can
Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can
So beat it, just beat it

You have to show them that you're really not scared
You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare
They'll kick you, then they beat you,
Then they'll tell you it's fair
So beat it, but you wanna be bad

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it

Beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or who's right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right

Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just beat it, beat it
Beat it, beat it, beat it

Under Pressure

I am so not an eighties music fan. I hear an eighties song, and I do my best to leave the room. I don't know what it is about that musical era, but the eighties and I are not good friends as far as music goes.
But, leave it to me to fall in love with an eighties song as soon as My Chemical Romance & The Used collaborate on its remix. In all honesty, I would have never given this song a chance if my favorite band and their close friends, respectively, hadn't redone it. Sorry, I'm terribly prejudice against eighties music, I know. But I listed to this remix of Under Pressure, and turns out I like the lyrics a lot, and the beat is super catchy, too.
Congrats to MCR and The Used, for recording an awesome cover to what was probably an awesome song to begin with. But I'll let some Queen or David Bowie fans tell you how great the original track was. Me? I'm a little biased.
So, here are the lyrics to Under Pressure, and a video of the bands performing the song together. Usually I don't like posting videos of live performances because, let's face it, no band or artist is as great live as they are in a recording studio, and most of the videos of live performances on YouTube have awful picture or audio quality, or both. But I found this video and it was great quality, and fun to watch to boot. So, I'm making an exception and posting this video of a live performance instead of a video where you sit and stare at a band logo for three and a half minutes. You're welcome.
Enjoy the song!

My Chemical Romance & The Used - Under Pressure (Live)

Under Pressure
My Chemical Romance & The Used (Originally by David Bowie & Queen)

Pressure!

Pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure
That burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

Bah bah dah bah bah dah
(Yeah) (Yeah)

That's okay!
It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Scream "Let me out!"
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
Pressure on people
People on streets

Bah bah dah bah bah dah
Okay!

Chippin' around
Kick my brains round the floor
These are the days
It never rains but it pours
Bah bah dah bah bah dah

People on streets
bah dah dee da day
People on streets
bah dah dee dah dee dah dee dah dee dah

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Scream "Let me out!"
Pray tomorrow takes me higher (higher)

Yeah!

Turned away from it all
Like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love
But it's so slashed and torn

Why? Why? Why?
Love (love)! Love (love)! Love (love)!

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love give love give love?
Give love give love give love give love give love?

Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For the people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our ways
Of caring about ourselves

This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves under pressure

Under pressure
