Boston

I'll admit; I don't know a lot about rock, pop, or hip-hop. Country's more my thing. I don't know a lot of the artists, bands or songs that the rest of the world claims are number one.
What I do know is that I heard Augustana's Boston on the radio once when it became popular on the local stations, and have been madly in love ever since. I had never heard of Augustana and had never heard any of their other songs - I still havn't, in fact - but Boston definantly least stole my attention.
I think it's hard for a group to mix such beautiful melodies and deep lyrics into a rock song, and pull it off with such charisma that it leaves you feeling something special when the last chord fades away. Augustana rose the the challenge amazingly well with Boston. Not only is the song a musical marvel, the music video, which I will post, is a literal work of art. And the lyrics? Pure poetry.
Here it is; Boston by Augustana.

Boston Music Video

Boston
Augustana

In the light of the sun, is there anyone?
Oh it has begun
Oh dear you look so lost, eyes are red and tears are shed
This world you must've crossed
She said...

You don't know me and you don't even care, oh yeah
Well you said....
You don't know me and you don't wear my chains, oh yeah...

Essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts across an open field
Where the flowers gaze at you...they're not the only ones who cry
When they see you
You said...

You don't know me and you don't even care, oh yeah
Well you said...
You don't know me and you don't wear my chains, oh yeah

She said I think I'll go to Boston

I think I'll start a new life,
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name,
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather,
I think I'll get a lover and fly em' out to Spain
I think I'll go to Boston,
I think that I'm just tired,
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset,
I hear it's nice in the Summer, some snow would be nice

Whoa yeah..

You don't know me, and you don't even care
Whoa, yeah...

In Boston, where no one knows my name
Where no one knows my name
Where no one knows my name
In Boston, where no one knows my name

Sadie Hawkins Dance

I'm a Relient K fan, and with my own high school's Sadies dance coming up (December 1st) I find this song extremelly amusing. I've never actually heard it, but I found it on iTunes and looked up the lyrics...oh my, so funny.
So ya. This one goes out to all my buds; lets all get siked for Sadies!

Sadie Hawkins Dance
Relient K

All the girls in the bathroom talking
Who they gonna take to the Sadie Hawkins
My ears are burning but I kept on walking
Smile on my face and an air guitar rocking

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

Sitting in the back of my next class napping
Got up, gave a speech, then bowed to the clapping
Told a funny joke got the whole class laughing
Think I got a tan from the light which I was basking

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

Scan the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I'd like a beating
I said that's one thing I won't be needing
And since I'm rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning

She said, "You're smooth, and good with talking.
You're going with me to the Sadie Hawkins"

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
In my khaki pants
There's nothing better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
It's always a surprise
There's nothing better
Baby do you like my sweater?

What Hurts The Most

I really love this song (What Hurts The Most, by Rascal Flatts), but my main purpose for making this post is to showcase the beautiful music video. I remember the first time I ever watched this video, it just about sent me to tears... Be warned, it's a very powerful video, and I don't think I'm the only one who would be moved by it.
Either way, enjoy the video, and the lyrics, which I'll post here, too.

Rascal Flatts - What Hurts The Most Music Video

What Hurts The Most
Rascal Flatts

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do

It’s hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I’m doin’ It
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

Not seeing that loving you
That’s what I was trying to do

TobyMac - Dare To Be Different

What's the best way to describe Toby McKeehan?? This artist, better known as TobyMac, and his music are anything but ordinary, and I think Tonya Parker Morrison summed them up best in her article she wrote about TobyMac in the American Chronicle (August 22, 2005; read the entire article here):

If Christian pop, hip hop and rap had a child, the offspring would most certainly be Toby McKeehan, better known as tobyMac.

You said it, girl. TobyMac has "wow"-ed listeners of all musical preferences with his inspiring and always fun songs. But what's so appealing about this artist??
I believe TobyMac's greatest strength is the diversity of his music, as Morrison pointed out. TobyMac's songs are one of a kind, mixing hip-hop beats with rap vocals. These are definantly songs you can listen to over and over again, without them ever getting old.

I am a new TobyMac fan; Reno made me a mixed CD of songs from albums Diverse City and Portable Sounds, and those songs have been rockin' on my iPod ever since. Before Reno's enlightenment, I was a fan of some of TobyMac's old tracks; Atmosphere (Remix) and Gone were my favorites, and I still enjoy them. Also a fan of the Christian group Superchic[k], I loved the rap accompaniment TobyMac recorded in Superchic[k]'s song, Stories (Down To The Bottom).
Some of my current TobyMac favs include Diverse City, Boomin', I'm For You, No Ordinary Love, Feelin' So Fly, Ignition, Catchafire (Whoopsi-Daisie), and Made To Love.

But as much good as I can say about this artist, the best way to appreciate TobyMac is by hearing one of his songs yourself. So, here it is, the music video for TobyMac's Boomin' - one of my favorite songs.

TobyMac - Boomin' Music Video

Like whatcha hear?? I encourage you to check out some more of TobyMac's music; this group really is one in a million.
And if you didn't like this song? Don't worry. No two TobyMac songs are the same...do some research, and check out some other Toby tracks. I can guarantee that this artist's diversity will not leave you disappointed.

Music in Poetry

I recieved this poem as a handout today in English, and I just really loved it. I thought the words were so true...
At first I thought it was stretching the boundaries of what this site was about, posting a poem, but then again, songs really are just poems set to music... And can there be boundaries to a site about music? Can music have boundaries? I don't believe so.
In the end, I decided to share this with ya'll. And if you think about it, the words do kind of fit this site...
Anyway, enjoy.

Music

Music-it has the power
against myself to control my emotions
and that creates a need
for me to own it
and control myself.
Each new genre of music
releases an explosion inside myself
of adrenalin which I am eager
to run off and use.
Every music store is
an Amazon of new bands
fighting to release their
own personal effects on everybody.
But I am also fighting
to try the new bands first
and accept and enjoy the effects
that music throws at me.

Think Of Me

Reno, you silly head...you forgot Think Of Me! I agree that the other songs rock too, but this one is my favorite. Angel Of Music is probably second on the list, followed by Music of the Night in a close third.
I absolutelly love the lyrics! This song is absolutelly beautiful, whether it means anything to you or not. But if it doesn't touch your heart...I think there's something wrong with you.
I agree with Reno...Phantom Of The Opera is a fabulous musical gone book gone movie, although I've only seen the movie. I can imagine the book is good, too...ask Reno. But I bet the musical blows them all out of the water.
Anyway, here are the lyrics to Think Of Me... In the movie, the female vocals are sung by Christine, and the male vocals are sung by Raoul.

Think Of Me
From the Film Phantom Of The Opera

{female vocals}
Think of me, think of me fondly,
when we've said goodbye.
Remember me once in a while -
please promise me you'll try.
When you find that, once again, you long
to take your heart back and be free -
if you ever find a moment,
spare a thought for me

We never said our love was evergreen,
or as unchanging as the sea -
but if you can still remember
stop and think of me . . .

Think of all the things
we've shared and seen -
don't think about the things
which might have been . . .

Think of me, think of me waking,
silent and resigned.
Imagine me, trying too hard
to put you from my mind.
Recall those days
look back on all those times,
think of the things we'll never do -
there will never be a day,
when I won't think of you . . .

{male vocals}
Can it be? Can it be Christine?
Bravo!
Long ago, it seems so long ago
How young and innocent we were...
She may not remember me,
but I remember her...

{female vocals}
Flowers fades,
The fruits of summer fade,
They have decisions, so do we
but please promise me, that sometimes
you will think of me!

Phantom of the Opera!

Hey guys, new music genre for ya, if you've never seen Andrew Lloyed Webber's, Phantom of the Opera you have missed an absolutely amazing performance with some of the best singers, lyrics, and music of all time. Needless to say, watch it as soon as you possibly can. Emmy Rossum is stunning, "voice like an angel" as she is suppose to have, she fits the part absolutely perfectly, she is such an amazing actress and vocalist, and only 17 when she filmed Phantom! Gerard Butler has a very unoperatic voice but is amazing as well. The lyrics for all of the songs are incredible, just breath taking, and with the musics the entire thing is just, omg there's no words that can desribe it....so, here are some lyrics from my favorite songs, not all of the lyrics sometimes, but some favorites and samples...

Phantom of the Opera

In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
and speaks my name
And do I dream again
for now I find
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside my mind

Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you
grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me
to glance behind
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside your mind

Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear
It's me they hear...

Your/My spirit and my/your voice
in one combined
The Phantom of the Opera is thereInside my/your mind

*the your / mys are where the Phantom and Christine are both singing one of them, Christine says Your spirit and my voice, while the Phantom says My spirit and your voice, meaning together they make up the whole song. The meaning behind all the lyrics is incredible...

Angel of Music

Father once spoke of an angel
I used to dream he'd appear
Now as I sing, I can sense him
And I know he's here
Here in this room he calls me softly
Somewhere inside hiding
Somehow I know he's always with me
He, the unseen genius

This is an amazing verse by Emmy, she just nails it, so beautifully.

Music of the Night by far has the most incredible lyrics, I have to add the whole of them here, it's the Phantom's solo, and the words are just so so true and gorgeous, I cannot get enough of this song!

Music of the Night

Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation.
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
Silently the senses abandon their defences

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour.
Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender.
Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light -
and listen to the music of the night...

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before!
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly, music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkness that you know you cannot fight
the darkness of the music of the night.

Let your mind start a journeythrough a strange, new world!
Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before!
Let your soul take you where you long to be!
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

Well I was going to bold the phrases I liked the most but I think I would have nearly the entire song bolded, these lyrics are just too perfect. There are so many other great lyrical songs in the movie, here's a link http://www.stlyrics.com/t/thephantomoftheopera.htm to all of the song lyrics, so please see the movie, please listen to the songs, and be ready to just become obbsessed with it.

Brad Paisley - Never A Dull Moment

Country music just wouldn't be the same without Brad Paisley.

I believe it's Brad's lyricists that really made him famous. His songs are always worth a laugh, and every one is 100% country.
Older Brad hits include his "fishin' song" I'm Gonna Miss Her (2001) and Celebrity (2003). Some of his newer tracks, including Ticks (2007) and Online (2007) have stayed true to Brad's trademark legacy of quirky lyrics and country flare. Even when he slows down the tempo and his lyrics turn to a more serious mood, Brad seems to always make it big with the fans - chosing to sing a duet with Alison Krauss was a smart move that put the hauntingly beautiful Whiskey Lullaby at the top of the charts for a very long time.

For Brad Paisley lyrics, check out this site. The lyrics for all his albums are here, including the songs mentioned above.

And here is the music video to I'm Gonna Miss Her, curtosy of YouTube. If you get the chance, I also recommend watching the music video for Celebrity. Both songs & videos are hilarious...nice work, Brad.

Celine Dion - Always Amazing

Alright guys, I'm going to state an opinion here - if anyone says that Celine Dion is anything less than an amazingly talented vocalist, they've got something wrong in the head. Alright? Good. Glad we're on the same page here.
I first fell in love with Celine when she moved us all with the vocals to "My Heart Will Go On", the love theme in the remarkable 1997 film, Titanic. I've never purchased a Celine album or listened to any of her other songs, but I don't doubt for a second that any of those songs are breathtaking as well.
Now I have another reason to adore this fantastic vocalist; Celine Dion's outstanding voice graced the latest promo for the new CBS TV series Moonlight, a show about a Private Investigator who leads a secret life as a vampire. I fell in love with the promo first - I am a huge fan of Moonlight, even though it's only aired two episodes so far - but later paid closer attention to the lyrics of the song Celine sings, titled "Taking Chances".
Below are the lyrics to Celine Dion's "Taking Chances", as well as the promo for Moonlgiht, curtosy of YouTube.
Enjoy.

Taking Chances
Celine Dion

Don't know much about your life
Don't know much about your world, but
Don't want to be alone tonight,
On this planet they call earth

You don't know about my past, and
I don't have a future figured out
And maybe this is going too fast
And maybe it's not meant to last,

{chorus}
But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?

I just want to start again,
And maybe you could show me how to try,
And maybe you could take me in,
Somewhere underneath your skin?

{chorus}

And I had my heart beaten down,
But I always come back for more, yeah
There’s nothing like love to pull you up,
When you’re laying down on the floor there
So talk to me, talk to me,
Like lovers do
Yeah walk with me, walk with me,
Like lovers do,
Like lovers do

{chorus}

Don’t know much about your life
And I don’t know much about your world...

Moonlight Promo

I improved it for ya...

Ha ha ha thank you cowgirl. Sorry about dissing your song today lol, I just caught the last line of the chorus, it made me laugh, and I still disagree, though the lyrics are cute. Here's some better ones though, by mwaa, I just had to alter them a little....

She's riding in the middle of his Mercedes Benz
Blaring Bon Jovi, yelling, Watch the front ends!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love rich boys

Ha ha ha totally jk but it was still fun.

Ladies Love Country Boys

Thought I'd post the lyrics to the song "Ladies Love Country Boys", another great one by Trace Adkins. Reno made me laugh when she heard this for the first time and said she "had to disagree" with the lyrics. Love ya, girl, but you just don't have the same appreciation as me for a good country song :D

Ladies Love Country Boys
Trace Adkins

She grew up in the city in a little subdivision
Her daddy wore a tie, mama never fried a chicken
Ballet, straight-A's, most likely to succeed
They bought her a car after graduation
Sent her down South for some higher education
Put her on the fast track to a law degree

Now she's coming home to visit
Holding the hand of a wild-eyed boy
With a farmer's tan

She's riding in the middle of his pickup truck
Blaring Charlie Daniels, yelling, Turn it up!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love country boys

You know mamas and daddies want better for their daughters
Hope they'll settle down with a doctor or a lawyer
And their uptown, ball gown, hand-me-down royalty

They never understand why their princess falls
For some camouflage britches and a southern boy drawl

Or why she's riding in the middle of a pickup truck
Blaring Hank Jr., yelling, Turn it up!
They raised her up a lady but there's one thing
They couldn't avoid
Ladies love country boys

You can train 'em, you can try to teach 'em right from wrong
But its still gonna turn 'em on

When they go riding in the middle of a pickup truck
Blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd, yelling, Turn it up!
You can raise her up a lady but there's one thing
You just can't avoid
Ladies love country boys

And the video...as always, Trace pulled off another hilarious music video. This one comes to ya'll curtosy of YouTube.
And, naturally, our "country boy" is driving a Silverado. Chevy rocks my world ;)

Bring Me To Life

As Reno mentioned, Evanescence really does rock. I can't get enough of Amy's haunting vocals, and the way the band sounds as a whole is amazing; I think the ballads are their strength, although the harder rock songs are really great as well.
I don't own any Evanescence albumbs, but purchased "My Immortal" and "Bring Me To Life" off of iTunes, and they now grace the inner workings of my iPod. If there are any devoted Evanescence fans out there reading this, please give me some tips on top Evanescence songs...I have only heard a few. Someday - when I have money - I plan on purchasing "Taking Over Me" via the power of the internet.

My English 1 class is focusing on poetry at the moment, and, since songs are really just poems set to music, my English teacher gave the class a homework assignment that involved writing down a little bit of our favorite song and telling the class why we liked it. I don't have a "favorite" song - how on earth could I choose?! - but "Bring Me To Life" rocks hard core, so I chose that one. I ended up writing down the first verse and chorus to share with the class.

Anyway. Here are the lyrics; enjoy.

Bring Me To Life
Evanescence

{verse one}
How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

{chorus}
(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I’ve become

{verse two}
Now that I know what I’m without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

{chorus}

{bridge}
Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch without your love
Darling only you are the life among the dead

{verse three; duet}
All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought without a voice without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life

{chorus}

(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
Bring me to life

I'm game!

Cowgirl this sounds like an awesome idea, if I get the time I'll definately post on here! I agree completly, I dunno where I would be in life without my music, ok I'll be honest I dunno if I'd still be in life without my music, it's so just...such an everything for me. I'm not extreamly opinionated but I have a good ear with music so I can definately add in here any flaws someone forgot to fix : D

In my opinion the song really has to have it all to be amazing. I mean, I couldn't even tell you the most important thing in a song to me, as far as lyrics, tune, backgroud, instruments, it all just has to fit perfectly to be a number one. I'm open to new music and sounds of course, my friend just got me into techno and I'd never really given it a chance but I really enjoy it! And this Italian group, they're really cool too. So I'm open to new ideas and would love anyone's opinons of groups to check out.

Personally my fovrite sound is the loud guitars paired with sweet piano, duh, think Evanescence meets Skillet, you got it. So that's me, but Toby definately rocks and some other hip hop is alright, I was in a hip hop phase a little while ago. Love slow songs, of course, love guitars, and really really love the unhuman little effects they add in stuff, computerized sounds. I'm puting together an album of my own actually, Reno's gonna rock someday, so that's taking up a lot of my time but I absolutely love it so it's all good, naturally. So that's me, what about anyone else???

Skillet rocks my socks!

I totally agree, Skillet is amzing. I don't like Looking for Angels though, and Rebirthing is ok sometimes but other times I don't like it, other than that my opinions are almost exactly the same as yours. My faves are The Last Night, Yours to Hold, and Whispers in the Dark....if I had to choose, no, Don't Say Goodbye has to be on there too....ugh, I love them all....

So we know Skillet totally is a fave and anyone who disagrees is out of wack, so what are some other awesome groups? Evanescence of course, TobyMac's pretty sweet, Kutless is alright, I used to really love them but now all the songs are starting to kinda meld together...hmmmm, I love Stellar Kart when I'm in a really happy mood, but when I'm not I can't stand them lol, but very nice vocals. I have a feeling I'm missing something very big....dunno what though....help me out here....
